Issue:"Problems getting to the Windows Startup menu."

Scanner: Flatbed
Windows: 3.x, 95
Driver Mode: Real Mode

Installing Real Mode Drivers for the PnP card and the customer is having trouble doing an F8 or Step by Step confirmation boot. Try this; add a /ask to the end of the aspi line in config.sys.

ie. DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ASPI416.SYS /OVERRIDE /IO=FF80 /V /ASK

What this will do is stop the boot and ask you if you want to load this driver. Choose yes to confirm that the driver is loading and contiune with the boot. After you have seen that the line successfully loaded during boot you can remove the /ASK and save the config.sys and then next time the customer boots they will not have to answer the question.

Issue: "Failure to communicate with scanner"

Scanner: 5p
Windows: 95
Driver Mode: Protected Mode

End User was using HP Scanjet Copy Utility. User had the HP 680c & 850c printers. When using the Copy Utility with system attached to the 680c printer, it would scan between 40 to 50% of the image, stop, and give the error message "Failure to communicate with scanner". After clicking OK, it would print the 40 to 50% it had scanned. With system attached to the 850c printer, user would receive the same results except the percentage increased to about 80%. User had a SCSI Jazz drive chained to the system with the scanner. Both the Jazz drive and the 5p are self terminating devices. Disabled termination on the Jazz drive and Copy Utility would scan and print the entire document.

In short, if you run into this type of issue where the software starts to communicate with the scanner and stops: Make sure you only have one SCSI device terminated at the end of the chain.

Began install shield. Then installation process stopped. Error: Severe "Error occured in setup. Close all applications and try setup again. Error code #17". Click OK. Then received message "Install complete". Then was prompted to restart computer. Click No. After clicking NO, paperport installation resumed. Disk 2, 3, and 4. Finished installing Paperport. NOTE: This was an issue that was duplicated with two different computers with two different set of duplicated sets of disks. This problem did not exist when installing by the CD-ROM that the disks were made with.

Issue: Aspi416.sys driver disappearing in the config.sys

Scanner: Any scanner using plug-n-play card
Windows: 3.x, 95
Driver Mode: Real Mode

When installing Real mode drivers, sometimes the line under the [Configsys] section in the sym53416.inf file removes the aspi416 driver in the Config.sys when the computer is shut down. This can also happen when the line is already been deleted from the file. The solution is to add the line back into the config.sys (device=c:\windows\system\aspi416.sys) and then restart. Then you must run the scanner to make a connection. After this, when you shut down, the line will not disappear.

Issue: Paperport detected an incompatability with your video driver {Matrox Millenium Powerdisk 7206540.1.0}. Updated drivers can be found on the HP web site.

Scanner: Any scanner using Paperport
Windows: 95
Driver Mode: Protected Mode
Video: Matrox millenium powerdisk

Paperport conflict with video driver. The solution is to either download updated 32-bit drivers from Matrox or. . . in BPS02038

Win 95 Video Drivers: "Matrox video drivers, version 3.00 or older"
If an error occurs during the launch of PaperPort, your video driver is incompatible with PaperPort. An updated video driver can be downloaded from HP's website "http://www.hp.com".

Alternatively, a workaround is available: At this point you will have to restart win95. After which PaperPort will succesfully launch.
